Low Alcohol – Remember the Law

The title may seem a bit dramatic, however with the increase in the popularity of low alcohol beverages, we are seeing more breweries fall foul of one little known mandatory requirement for their beverage label.

As stated by drinkaware.co.uk, the law states that all low alcohol drinks with an ABV of 1.2% or less (including alcohol free), must display nutritional information on the label. This information includes things such as calories, fat, saturates, carbohydrates, etc. Quite often, this information is missed as it is not a requirement for alcoholic drinks, but please remember that this is not recommendation, this is a legal requirement.

Now, you may be thinking why is this nutritional information required for low alcohol beverages and not your normal brews? Well, it stems from the health benefits from low ABV, and that people often drink these beverages as part of a weight loss programme or healthier diet. To achieve the health benefits, consumers require the nutritional information of what they are consuming to balance their diet.

We do try and highlight to customers any missing information we believe needs conveying to consumers; however, this is not our responsibility. Always know your legal obligations prior to designing any artwork. This post was written as helpful guidance, but you should always do your due diligence regarding the latest legislation.
